100% natural magnesium chloride spray and flakes help restore your magnesium levels more efficiently than many oral supplements, since topical magnesium bypasses the digestive system. One serving (14 sprays) gives 140mg of natural ionic magnesium, and each bottle gives you 70 servings. Take 2 servings daily for best results, or add 10 sprays to your water daily.

How did we get magnesium before? For as long as humans have existed, we got water from mountains, wells, creeks, and glaciers — sources naturally rich in magnesium. We bathed in this water, washed our dishes with it, and watered our plants with it. On holidays we still go to hot springs and the beach, both rich in magnesium. When we bathe in and drink mineral-rich water, our bodies’ many biological processes are able to function at an optimal level. What’s changed is the magnesium we get from our everyday water — something we can simply and affordably restore by using magnesium chloride daily to help support relaxation, healthy hormone production, better sleep, and vitamin D processing.

A magnesium supplement’s stability constant tells us how easily the body can access the magnesium ion — the lower the constant, the more easily it’s absorbed. Magnesium chloride has one of the best possible stability constants, close to zero, because the magnesium and chloride are bound weakly, so your body can access the magnesium ion with very little work. As a bonus, the chloride ions in these small MgCl molecules are also vital electrolytes needed in the blood and easily regulated by the body.

Today as consumers we have to question everything — many companies make big claims, but their sourcing falls short. To understand magnesium, it helps to know there are three major sources in the world. In China there’s a topical magnesium mine that doesn’t produce therapy-grade magnesium — it’s mainly used on roads and in other industrial products. The second major topical mine is in Germany, which produces both therapy-grade and non-therapy-grade magnesium (the therapy-grade version is used in hospitals, including for IV and cardiac care). The third source is the Zechstein seabed, 1.5km underground and shielded from surface pollutants and chemicals, so its magnesium is exceptionally pure. This mine follows transparent mining practices, and every batch is tested.

Magnesium taken in pill form is typically only 8-30% bioavailable, since much of it is broken down by the digestive system. Topical magnesium — in a cream, oil, or bath — is generally considered to absorb more efficiently through the skin. That’s why we believe magnesium works best transdermally.

Magnesium chloride is a transdermal (topical) and internal spray that many people use to help ease muscle tension, support relaxation, and wind down for sleep. It’s a simple, natural addition to a daily routine that can make a real difference to your comfort and rest.

How to Use Magnesium Oil

  • Daily, like a vitamin: spray 14 to 20 times all over your body from the neck down. Fuller-body coverage works better than just your feet.
  • Before bed: a lovely part of an evening wind-down routine.
  • Before or after exercise: for muscles that work hard.
  • Katerina's daily ritual: Magnesium Oil in the morning, Magnesium Body Butter at night, and a magnesium bath once a week or more.

Magnesium Oil: Common Questions

Why does it tingle?
A tingle is very common, and it's not an allergic reaction. In my 20 years of making magnesium, I've found it's strongest when people first start, when the body seems to soak it up like a little sponge. For most people it fades within 30 to 40 days of daily use, unless they're dealing with ongoing inflammation or a lot of stress, which is most of us in everyday life! Some people notice it comes back now and then in the areas where they hold tension, like the neck and shoulders. I see that as your body talking to you: a gentle nudge to breathe, slow down and let that area release. Tip: skip freshly shaved or broken skin, and if you ever get a rash that doesn't settle, rinse it off and take a break.

Is it really an oil?
No. "Magnesium oil" is magnesium chloride dissolved in water; it just feels silky, like an oil. It absorbs in a few minutes. There's no need to rinse it off: leave it on so your skin can keep soaking it up.

Which size should I buy?
If you use it daily, the 120 ml is better value per spray. The 50 ml is perfect for your bag or for trying it out.

Can my kids use it?
We make a gentler Magnesium Spray for Children at 25% strength.
